We talk of minding our P's and Q's when we mean being very careful about our behaviour. This phrase is said to have originated in the reigns of Louis XIV.when elaborate equally elaborate bows.To make these bows ,a particular "step " with the feet was necessary and also a low bend of the body.It was difficult in this position to keep wigs securely seated ,and French dancing masters used to warn their build to "Mind Your P's (piers, feet) and Q's (queue,wigs)."
