A fish use its gills in the same way as a man uses his lungs to take Oxygen.The water which sent over it gills provides oxygen and washes away the carbon dioxide.If it is taken out of water and the oxygen can not reach its blood, then naturally it expires as a man would if he found himself unable to breathe
