When we say "Daisy" we are really speaking of "the eye of the day." That at least, is the old meaning of the word.it is derived from the old English dates eaye, meaning "day's eye" or "eye of day,"referring to the appearance of the flowers. The closing of the flower to conceal the yellow disc in the evening and the opening of it again in the morning has given rise to this name.
