Why Do Violinists Put Resin On Their Bow-Strings?

Violin music is caused by the vibrations of the strings as the bow passes over them.If the bow-string becomes too smooth it slides up and down the violin strings, and produces little or no sound. The Violinist prevents this calamity by rubbing, from time to time,a piece of resin over the strings of his bow.The bow -string is then roughened sufficiently to do it's work properly
